Sophie Loren is one of my “Do It Gorgeously” role models. When I’m kneading bread, or pouring face oils, I think of iconic women like Sophia or Julia Roberts and know
that these are the kind of women who aren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and have a go at making virtually anything because they know the intense thrill and satisfaction that comes from doing it themselves. Read the rest of this entry »

The Garden Gourmet is the compost bin that I took onto Oprah and demonstrated with Julia Roberts. It really is a good, sturdy bin, which works well across the board. The most useful feature is the hatch door on the front, which you lift up in order to harvest the compost at the bottom of the bin. Keep in mind that the compost at the bottom of this 70-gallon bin will be ready way before the middle and top section.
If you are anywhere near Los Angeles this week, I will be demonstrating how to compost at 12 noon, Wednesday March 31st at 12 noon. I would love to see you!

Congratulations to Sandra Bullock, who is just so down-to-earth and lovely – I’m thrilled for her. I got to see how eco-friendly Sandra is first-hand as she was part of the Oprah Earth-Day special that I did with Julia Roberts in 2008. She had Oprah tour her husband’s Austin Restaurant and also came out with a line of wonderful eco-friendly candles. Last night, instead of having diamonds dripping from her wrists, Sandra wore a gift from the woman she portrayed in The Blind Side, Leigh Ann Tuohy. Leigh Ann asked eco-friendly and (you’ll be soooooooo happy), affordable, jewelry designer Alex & Ani to create a set of expandable Read the rest of this entry »

I try to buy Fair Trade items whenever I can. I was looking for a bag for my daughter today, and was
thrilled to find just what I wanted from the wonderful World Of Good, where I can even read the story of the person who made it, however, it’s not always easy to think Fair Trade when you’re on a budget Read the rest of this entry »

In the face of all horrors that are going on around the world right now, it seems terribly superficial to be even thinking about deodorants, however, most of us (Julia Roberts aside,) slap it on everyday and given the fact that it could be harmful, makes it worth taking a look at which of the “natural” ones actually work. I’m not someone who sweats very much while exercising or during strenuous work, but I do sweat, or should I say “perspire” when I’m nervous. This can pose a serious problem when performing in front of large groups of people or when I’m on TV. I’ll never forget doing a segment on iVillage, when it was shot outside in Orlando (at the Theme Park). My nerves of doing live TV, coupled with the humidity factor shooting through the roof, posed a massive problem. I ended up walking around the table in the segment with my arms glued like sticks to my sides Read the rest of this entry »

I know that recycling isn’t the most exciting topic to be blogging about, however, boring as it
may be, all you Gorgeous recycling girls out there, (including Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock, Charlize Theron, and Alicia Silverstone,) should remember that you are successfully passing on an awesome habit to the next generation. In many schools and homes it’s now automatic for kids to search for the recycling bin when they want to throw something out. Read the rest of this entry »
