Q: I just made the vitamin C serum. It only makes enough to  fill half of my 1 oz. bottle, and yet the the recipe says it yields 1 oz. Are the amount correct?

A: Thanks for pointing this out. The yield is actually less than 1/2oz (typo). I think the confusion arose, as I suggest a 1 oz bottle! You can double the amounts to fill the bottle or stick with your half bottle. It’s actually better to make a smaller amount, as the fresher your serum is the better.

If it’s hard to find a 1 oz bottle, you can also use an old lip balm or eye cream pot. If you use your serum up within a week (which I do) it’s fine to keep it in your bathroom cabinet, rather than the fridge.

Q. When I made the vitamin C serum, it was still grainy – have I done something wrong?

A: The vitamin C crystals (and camu camu) will not dissolve completely. Make sure you stir the crystals in the water for a minute or so before adding the glycerin. When you put in into the bottle, shake really well. After a couple of days the crystals will further dissolve. Make sure you shake the bottle well before each use.

Q: I want to make the Green Scouring Paste on p. 303, do I need to mix the ingredients with water?

A: Yes you do! After mixing all the ingredients together in the glass bowl, add as much distilled water as you need, to form a thick paste.

Q: I am about to make the Foot Scrub, but it seems although there’s an awful lot of sweet almond oil in the recipe?

A: You are right to spot this. There was a typo, and it’s supposed to be 1/2 cup of sweet almond oil. I apologize and hope this doesn’t inconvenience you too much.

Q: I have noticed that some of the recipes are giving a higher yield than is listed and so I need larger containers. Am I getting something wrong?

A: No, unfortunately there are a couple of typos in the earliest printing on Yields and storage containers. Please find the correct yields as follows:
Page 23: Citrus Cleansing Cream
Yield should be 6oz
Storage container also 6oz

Page 28: Rose and Aloe Softening Toner
Yield should be 8oz
Storage container also 8oz

Page 52: Delightfully Cooling Deodorant
Yield should be 8oz
Storage container should be 8oz too.
