One of the things that I just adore about my job is that I get to meet a lot of women who are really making a difference. I get emails every week from teenagers to elderly women – all concerned about a myriad of different ways in which they can help the people they love, to be the best that they can be. This week I had the pleasure of meeting the two lovely women, Vici Prodromitis and Donna Sanvig, who founded the fantastic charity, Canswerlink, just a couple of years ago, to solve a problem that hasn’t really been addressed until now. I can’t believe that they’re just a 2-woman gig – these inspiring ladies get down & dirty to literally scrub people’s houses clean – the homes of cancer patients who are undergoing treatment. If you’re looking for a really unique Birthday or Hostess gift – here’s a very cool idea: Why not order a Poem for your loved one. You can go straight to talented poet, Rebecca Strecker, and tell her exactly what you want the poem to be about and which details to include etc. You can then send it either as an email, or embed it in an e-card. A customized poem would also work really well for a special thank you, or a love letter! It’s greener than green, as no resources were used at all and the recipient gets to print out your poem on recycled paper to frame, or transfer to a word document to keep forever. I’m obsessed with finding the perfect non-toxic foundation which performs as well as any high-end department store brand. I have tried them all – the good, the bad and the just plain ugly.

Finding the perfect green foundation is a top priority because there’s seems little point in going to the effort to make or buy non-toxic moisturizers and serums etc, if you’re going to plaster a toxic layer of makeup on top. A base also covers a pretty large area of your skin and most of us wear it almost every day. A lot of women, however, try one eco-friendly brand that doesn’t go on as well as their favorite brand and they get totally put off the whole idea of green makeup. So if you’ve had a bad experience, don’t despair as there are a couple of fantastic choices. Read the rest of this entry »

This time of year, the fleas really get going and love to nest in any form of fur that they can find. Unfortunately many commercial anti-flea products can leave behind a chemical residue on your pet’s fur, which can cause damage to the brain and nervous system of small children and your pet. I simply adore Melissa shoes and flip flops. Melissa is an incredibly eco-friendly Brazilian shoe company and this year they have numerous styles that will have your mouth watering. The great thing about Melissa’s is that every single style I’ve tried is ridiculously comfortable, and they’re priced reasonably. They are made of silicone, so most of the styles are machine washable! Get your feet into summer by snatching up a pair of Melissa’s now!
The Melissa Meia (Faux Leopard pictured below), is exclusive to Kaight Shoes, where you can find all the Melissa styles too.

I clearly remember Lola’s pre-school teacher presenting me with an enormous bag full of her artwork just before the holidays. I was absolutely at a loss at what to do with it. I already had dozens of her masterpieces stuck up all over the kitchen (I could barely open the fridge), and now this bag of finger painting and splatterings, which I was clearly supposed to treasure. I picked out a few creations to put in an over-stuffed art folder and guiltily tossed the rest of them into the recycling bin. Of course, the next day I heard shrieks from the laundry room – 3 year-old Lola, crumpled artwork in hand, wailing on the floor by the recycle bin, Read the rest of this entry »
