ECO IN NYC
August 19th, 2010 by Sophie

When traveling to large cities, such as NYC, Chicago, London, Paris etc, it’s often a challenge to find a green way of doing it. On a recent trip to NYC, I was pleasantly surprised to find a new level of consciousness arising in the hotel industry. For now, with their massive and often archaic infrastructure, it’s pretty hard for for old school hotels in any city to change, however, like an old person stuck in their ways, some are at least taking a stab at it. So before landing in the big apple, I sniffed around a bit, and found The Benjamin Hotel, which is bang in the center of the city (mid town), and is a jewel among a lot of other rather large hotels in this Read the rest of this entry »

WORLD OF GOOD
November 2nd, 2009 by Sophie

passportpouchWe just adore this “Bound Together” passport holder made by Guatamalan artists and sold by World Of Good It’s just so annoying when travelling to have to get out your passport and ID out numerous check points, while having to negotiate laptops, cosmetics in plastic bags and taking one’s shoes, belt and everything else off. I could never bring myself to wear one of those pouches around the neck, until I saw this one. Now my chaotic airport habits will be changed forever. Also, read the powerful story of the folks who make them.

METHOD FOR SAVING
May 27th, 2009 by Sophie

method-hand-sanitizerHere is a good money-saving tip. When you are out and about, its important to find a non-toxic hand sanitizer (one that doesn’t contain Toluene – most antibacterial products out there do.) The Method hand sanitizer is non-toxic and yet a super-effective germ buster. Buy a large bottle (pictured) and then use a small FAA size-approved bottle in which to decant from the Method bottle. This way, you’re all set for a plane trip and you can re-fill as needed.

GOOD TRIPPING

bungalow-scout-insulated-lunch-bagThe Bungalow Scout Insulated Lunch Bag is the perfect accessory for any kind of summer trip, especially if you are flying. It’s an ideal size for a sandwich, yogurt and a drink and the really cool thing is that when you’re done, it folds up flat so you can easily stash it in your purse or your carry-on. I always get jealous glances from fellow passengers when I pull out a homemade gourmet sandwich after take-off and now I’ve found a snazzy little bag in which to keep it cool.

gratefulgraffiti The creators of these one-of-a-kind magnet pieces for your car, wanted everyone to be able to “tag” their town positive! I simply adore these crazy magnets that you can slap on your car and tell the world how you feel. The one pictured is perfect for Earth Month and should be mandatory for the G.G. girl! I love all the others, especially the heart, which reminds me to be grateful for everything that is great in my life. You can find them at gratefulgraffiti.com.heart01

Driving Less
September 24th, 2007 by admin

With Global Warming, Climate Change – whatever you want to call it, now a reality – driving less is the most important thing that you can do on a daily basis to curb your carbon emissions. Living in a big city, however, can we realistically cut back? Have you found a way to cut back? I am about to take my life in my hands here in Los Angeles and purchase a bicycle. I also try to walk, whenever possible and I always think twice before leaping in the car to go and “grab some milk or bread”. I have become horribly organized in the hope that I can reduce the amount of small daily trips I take. Apparently the average U.S. citizen takes 12 short car trips a day? Would love to hear you all weigh in on this vital matter…
