BADGER LIP TINTS
March 18th, 2010 by Sophie

I’ve always been a huge fan of Badger Bodycare and was thrilled to be able to try their newest product – a line of wonderful lip tints. What makes them unique is that on one end you get the tint and on the other end of the tube, you get an opal shimmer. Be warned, they come up paler than the shades shown. I personally love the Garnet, which gives my lips a natural plum tint. Made from Fair-trade cocoa butter and organic ingredients, these tints are unscented.

ARE OUR CHILDREN GUINEA PIGS?
March 16th, 2010 by Sophie

It’s come to the attention of a few highly respected doctors that phthalates found in perfumes, cosmetics, shampoos, nail polishes etc, really can cause injury to the developing brain and cause neuro-developmental disorders. This is why it’s really important that women, particularly of childbearing age, take steps to try to minimize their exposure. The problem is that you won’t find the word Read the rest of this entry »

BEAUTY PRODUCTS CAN CAUSE PMS
March 2nd, 2010 by Sophie

PMS (pre-menstrual stress), can be toxic in more ways than one. My husband used to count the days when he’d have to tread very, very carefully around the house. The wrong thing said in the wrong tone could have me lashing out in full-fledged attack. I’ve mercifully seen my PMS decrease over the past couple of years, which may be due to the fact that I’ve taken dramatic measures to eliminate as many Xenoestrogens from my life as possible. What is an Xenoestrogren? Read the rest of this entry »

IS YOUR NAIL SALON SAFE?
February 23rd, 2010 by Sophie

When I walk into most nail salons, the familiar odor of strong chemicals hits and although I don’t actually mind the smell too much, I know that it’s got to be right up there in the worst air quality that I could possibly choose to hang around in. Flying around in the air is a potent cocktail of perfume, acrylics, formaldehyde and literally hundreds of hormone-disrupting chemicals. If your salon offers acrylics, there’s a reason why the therapist wears a mask – tiny particles that are easily inhaled by just about everyone in the salon. It comes as no surprise that all the fantastic Vietnamese manicurists in my local salon suffer from Read the rest of this entry »

BLOWING WILD
January 23rd, 2010 by Sophie

Blow dry the hairIf I was about to get shipped off to a desert island, I have to admit that one of the many things I’d miss, would be my trusty blow dryer. I know it’s horribly vain, but honestly a bad hair day is well..not good, and I have an annoyingly frizzy hair when its left to do its own thing. I’ve always wished I could be one of those girls who gets out of a pool or shower and allows her hair to air dry into a sexy, tousled mane – that is sadly so not me. To add insult to injury, I’m tend to mash my face into me pillow at night, resulting in a very bizarre hairstyle upon waking. So I irritatingly have to wash and blow dry my hair almost everyday. It hasn’t escaped my husband’s attention that the Gorgeously Green girl is perhaps using more than her fair share of electricity. He even caught me packing my massive salon-style dryer when we were on our way to an eco-lodge in Mexico. Read the rest of this entry »

DEODORANTS: WHICH STICK WORKS BEST?
January 21st, 2010 by Sophie

ProfileIn the face of all horrors that are going on around the world right now, it seems terribly superficial to be even thinking about deodorants, however, most of us (Julia Roberts aside,) slap it on everyday and given the fact that it could be harmful, makes it worth taking a look at which of the “natural” ones actually work. I’m not someone who sweats very much while exercising or during strenuous work, but I do sweat, or should I say “perspire” when I’m nervous. This can pose a serious problem when performing in front of large groups of people or when I’m on TV. I’ll never forget doing a segment on iVillage, when it was shot outside in Orlando (at the Theme Park). My nerves of doing live TV, coupled with the humidity factor shooting through the roof, posed a massive problem. I ended up walking around the table in the segment with my arms glued like sticks to my sides Read the rest of this entry »

JOYFUL BATH
January 9th, 2010 by Sophie

greenlgAs I’ve mentioned before, one of my eco-sins is to indulge in a hot, steamy bath every now and again. Especially in the winter months, it’s a habit that’s hard to kick. So rather than deny myself completly, I treat myself every now and again to that 20-gallons-of-water treat! I always add something gorgeously smelly and therapeutic to the water, so was thrilled to come across The Joyful Bath Company, whose bath salts are really incredible. Each mix is filled with minerals and therapeutic incredients, which really work. I love the ‘Nilla Buttermilk, which is made with Dead Sea Salts, buttermilk and vanilla – total heaven!
