I am getting our family ready for the winter by leaving warm afghans, robes, and sweaters laying out easily seen and accessible. This way it will be less tempting to turn up the heater. I am also asking my husband to insulate the garage since he spends so much time out there. This way he will hopefully not use his free standing heater as much.

  2. Kristin

Definitely keeping the thermostat lower and throwing on another sweater.

We have storm windows up and our attic has insulation but I live in Mississippi so it doesn’t get too cold most winters.i love those scarves!!

Let me just tell you that living in an apartment you can’t do a whole lot of “eco” construction. So in order for us to be conscious of the energy we are consuming in our place, we are just going to be wearing extra layers in our house when it is cold. If we need to turn on the heat, we will only do it for a small amount of time and not leave it on overnight. I tend to get cold very easily, so I am stocking up on cute sweaters and scarves in order to look adorable while trying to keep warm. =)

I live in Minnesota so I really need to put some work into winter prep! So far we’ve examined all the windows for drafts (and fixed problem spots), made a ‘draft stopper snake’ for the front door out of odds-n-ends fabrics around the house, rotated all our clothing and are just starting to think about purchasing the additional gear we need (an organic scarf would be the PERFECT start!).

Well, right now I live in a college dorm, so my winter prep consists of stocking up on cashmere socks and cuddling up with my bamboo blend blanket!!
However, I have recently learned that back at home my family has started stocking up on wood for the fireplace so as to eliminate the use of fuel oil!!! That made me happy!

Beautiful scarf! We live in Minnesota and have a very old home so we ahve been getting windows caulked and repaired where needed and I hang insulated drapes (ceiling to floor) on all the windows, blah from the outside beautiful on the inside. We switch the ceiling fans in all the rooms to blow upwards for better heat flow and the beds have the winter duvet covers on them. I also have throw blankets everywhere and slipper socks. We program the thermostat to keep things comfy but not too warm and just put on socks and sweaters. I also burn candles in all the rooms so lights don’t have to be on all the time. Weekends we turn the heat way down and use the oven to bake and make meals for the week. We live on mainly one floor so it heats up quick. We donated the old winter gear and went to a consignment sale at a large sporting goods store to get new for this year.

We recently installed new windows that are more energy efficient. Will be putting weather stripping around the doors. We’ve done just about every thing we can for our house. We live in Wisconsin so every square inch of our house is insulated. The windows were the last bit we needed to do. Those scarves do look adorable!

Our house is relatively new (3 yrs old) so we don’t have a lot of tasks to perform to ready it for winter, but one thing we are doing this winter is insulating our gas water heater; winter’s are not too bad here in SC but we figure an insulating blanket will still help keep energy consumption down. Also, since I am sor of cold-natured, I have already started wearing a sweater and socks inside so we can keep the thermostat low.

  10. Jingle

I am freshening up the blankets and pulling out the coats and gloves! I like to keep the heat at a slightly lower level and bundle up at night!

Hi! I’ll be staying with my aunt this coming winter(a few months down the road). Luckily for me, it’s a new house! Yes, the attic is well insulated for winter! We’re pretty much going to be keeping warm by using heaters which would be placed around the house. I guess we’ll be using the heaters mostly on colder days so as to save electricity and be environmentally friendly. Thanks for the giveaway! :)

  12. Hui Shan

What pretty scarves! It’ll be great if i could win those when i go to new york this december.. It’s going to be chilly i suspect! We’ll be renting a temporary place to stay in so i think we have to be frugal with electricity and use as little electric heaters as possible. Should be most likely alright..Looking forward to winter (because of the snow~)

    Cheers!

  13. Jen

with the increase in the cost of oil we have spent the summer acquiring fire wood to burn in our wood stove, we have already been using it this week for the first time since last winter. So for the winter we are going to try to not use our electric or oil heat at all!

  14. amanda

    What gorgeous scarves!

We are apartment dwellers, so we don’t have a lot of control over the actual nuts and bolts of the house. We just busted out the sweaters, though. :)

  15. Raych

We’re stocking up on sweaters so we don’t have to turn our heat on!

  16. Julie A.

I love this brand even though I have yet to purchase anything from them:) I need to work on that! Anyway, I just took out all my sweaters from boxes and hung them up and put away my tank tops. I live in AZ, where it is still rather warm, but the evenings get rather chilly. Also, I went around the whole house to look for any gaps on door frames where doors shut to outside and notice that my front door has a gap where the air from outside is coming through. Very glad to check thoroughly. And I will be bundling up at home when it starts to get cooler because running the heat in a home that is electric is very costly, so I will just layer up. Lastly, after I have baked something in the oven, I love to leave the oven open to let more heat into the home. My mom taught me that as I grew up in Alaska and I have done it ever since I got married:)

  17. Abby

I am switching my children’s drawers full of sweaters and long sleeve instead of short sleeve and tank tops. I am also insulating covering my water faucets for the winter months plus stocking my car with ice scrapers and blankets for emergencies

  18. Cathy

Oh, well I live in Maine so there is LOTS to do to get ready. We are renting a house this winter and it is old and not “winter friendly” so my husband is getting it all buttoned up….taking care of the windows, we are wearing several layers already to keep the thermostat turned down and even blocking off rooms that aren’t used much! Oh, would a new scarf be oh, so nice! :)

  19. melissa

planning to bundle up and keep the heat down

  20. tonya lemos

wear good quality wool, hat, socks, longies- and lots of layering. Splitting wood and spending time moving out if doors. then there is tea and homemade soups and bread. and a new scarf

  21. Chelsey

We seal plastic on our single pane windows using a kit and a blow dryer and we use extra blankets and clothing. We have a thermometer that we can program to turn down at night and turn on in the am. Our family of four bikes and walks absolutely everywhere which is something we’re continuing to do despite it being winter! A cozy scarf would be ideal! Thanks for the giveaway!

  22. Stacy

We got new windows this summer and we added this special caulk to a gaping door.

  23. Ruby

We are doing our best to get ready for winter by stocking up on hot cocoa and warm clothes. Getting them out of the closet and wash them. We are also getting the firewood cut and the fireplace cleaned. It is such a wonderful time of them year.

  24. Carly

We will be putting extra blankets on the beds to keep warm. Our heat is gas so its always expensive to heat in the cooler months. We have also recently sealed the windows and doors for better insulation.

These scarves are just beautiful. So chic and stylish! I would love to own one:)

Stay warm and thanks for the giveaway!

  25. Teresa

Living in the Rocky Mountains, we take many steps to keep the house toasty and energy efficient. This summer we added cellular shades to all windows, in addition to the existing mini-blinds. Double layers on the windows have already made a difference in our utility bill. Also added an insulation blanket on the water heater, plus lowered the temperature - already seeing savings on the natural gas bill!

  26. Astrid

I will be replacing all the dark curtains that I hung up for summer with light colored ones to let more sun in. Also I don’t use indoor heaters so I will be pulling out more covers and sweaters to stay warm around the house and off course cover all the gaps were cold air could seep through. Also I will be making warm drinks for my girls and since they like to dance to swing music I think I might dust off some of my old albums and get to dancing more often!

  27. Michelle

I live in the desert so I dont really have to do much to gear up for winter except buying warmer clothes. I love scarfs because it helps me take the chill off me when I have to walk a mile to the bus for work.

I love the cold air of winter but I don’t like to BE cold. I have always been an advocate of adding blankets instead of turning on heaters, especially when sleeping at night. I have an entire linen closet full of big heavy blankets for use by guests on the beds AND to use during the daytime to cuddle up while watching movies, etc. I also am just as happy to spend my money on cozy socks to keep on and cute sweaters/sweatshirts to wear around the house since i rarely turn the heat on at all and it’s a huge money saver in the winter. my husband appreciates my willingness to layer!

  29. Aimee

It sounds silly, but one little thing I did was get this blanket that zips into almost a body suit with holes for your arms. It is insulated and SOOO warm! Its wonderful to turn off the heat and put this blanket on to keep me warm, while being ohh so comfortable!

I have made a weather cover for my jogging stroller (a work of art if I do say so myself http://picasaweb.google.com/douglaskruger99/Daniel02?authkey=dpGxRxrxgrA#5243467573704695154). With this and the zip up stroller fleece bag, hat and gloves I should be able to exercise outside for much longer until it gets too cold for my little boy (currently 11 mths), holding off using my treadmill in the house. I am making roman blinds backed with very thick blackout material to replace a plastic venetian in the last room to have decent window coverings in our house. I have also made my son a thicker ’sleeping bag’ (same as Aimees’ blanket above) so that we can keep the house cooler at night and he wont get cold - you can buy them as well, but I make his, and I just keep making them bigger as he gets bigger.

After just purchasing our first condo and living in Michigan, where we have very cold winters, we have been coming up with as many ways as we can to stay warm without turning up the heat! It is actually supposed to snow here next week already! We layer up with long-sleeved tee’s, hoodies, blankets and slippers. We have about 4 blankets on our bed. We keep our thermostat lower than 68 and we usually have it off when we are not home. I keep the curtains and blinds closed and it keeps our rooms pretty cozy. I use the oven quite often, so that allows us to turn off the heat completely. I also burn soy candles in the evening. It warms up the rooms we are in instantly and makes it quite romantic at the same time! By the way, those scarves are adorable. And they would look perfect with my home layering attire!

  32. C Gibbs

I am getting ready for the cold season by going through our “Winter weather” box to make sure all the mittens have mates, the scarves aren’t shredded and the hats don’t have holes!

  33. Karen

We’ve been splitting wood from an old cherry tree that fell in our neighborhood. It’s hard work, but the warmth from the fire is well worth the hard work! I’m personally ready for the cold and anxious to bundle up!

  34. Elaine R

We have our thermostat set for lower during the day when we are away working and lower at night when we are sleeping.

  35. Susan Piluk

I pull out my crocheting bag and work on more afghans to wrap everyone up in.

We live in Kansas so the weather is already starting to turn. We live in a house built in the 1920’s so we frequently have things to update/repair. Our house is well insulated from years past except two windows in the living room. We have insulated windows on all of our house except for two very, very large picture windows in living room. My husband has recaulked/painted one, and he promises to finish the other one before it gets to be winter. We have a fireplace that we frequently use in the winter. The fans will be switched to the winter setting. Our furnace will get a new hepa filter this month, then in January, and will be set at 70-72. We have blankets galore in our house- every bedroom, and our coffee table in our living room has two compartments built in to store blankets. In the hall closet in a large basket is our scarves, gloves, hats etc. to bundle up. I like to keep things handy so the kids ( and hubby) have easy access. I am also looking into the solar powered attic fan before it really gets cold.
My car gets a winter checkup also, complete with blankets for my little ones.

  37. Monique

I have recently put in a programable thermostat am in the process of resealing my windows. Also throwing on a sweater and sweatpants when I get home in the evening!

  38. Michele

Layer up so we do not have to turn up the heat. We are also looking into new windows!

  39. Amy

I live in a rental so there isn’t too much I can do contruction wise for winter prep but…

-Keep the heat down and cuddle!Use a chilly room to your advantage and cuddle up with your partner!

-Roll up old towels and tuck them around the windows to keep the cold air from blowing in.

-Wear socks or slippers. I always ask for soft new socks or slippers from Santa!

  40. Cynthia

We don’t get big winters here in California but still, I bought a couple of great long sleeve sweaters and I aired out the quilts from last year. Especially the one I use on the couch to snuggle up at night.

  41. Peg

We have been cutting and drying wood for our wood stove. We live in a forest- so we have a very sustainable supply! I have gotten our draft dodgers out, switched our ceiling fans settings, and pulled out the wool blankets and fleece robes for those chilly mornings. Thanks for these give aways– what a fun way to reward sharing great ideas!

  42. Tori

We have an apartment, so choices are limited. But we are leaving most of the blinds closed during the day, leaving the lights off even when it means the apartment is dim, dressing ourselves and the baby in sweaters, and turning the thermostat off or on low at night. Also, I’m buying some reusable bags on my next shopping trip so that I can stop using so much plastic.

  43. G

here in az we are throwing a party to celebrate some cooler weather . the baby can finally wear some pants , sweaters etc not just onesie. we use the heat only when necessary 40′4 and do a lot more walking/biking in this weather so we save on gas m
