FOOD WEEK - Just One Change
If you want to switch to organic food, but are afraid to because of the price tag, this is what I suggest: Look at what you and your family eat/drink the most of on a daily basis and pick just one thing to switch. It may be that you drink gallons of milk, in which case, make the switch to organic milk. Do you eat chicken almost every day (some families do!), if so - buy organic/hormone-free chicken. Remember, if your local grocery store doesn’t carry the organic foods you want, have a word in the manager’s ear - they want your continued custom and you are voting with your dollars too.

I made the switch to organic fruit, and I swear it tastes better. The fruit seems sweeter, and more juicy. We also switched to all Organic dairy products and I hardly noticed a difference in my bottom line for groceries.

I also changed to organic fruit and organic dairy. I totally agree with Elise’s comments. My boys are inhaling the fruit and actually telling me ‘mom that apple tasted great’. We are also trying to cut out hfc’s and guess what the boys are actually full up quicker and not asking for extras!

Question: I am attempting to change my habits with clothing, accessories, and products. How can I “get rid of” tons of my purses that include leather in a way that they will be used again? As for the organic clothing, is it worth it for it to be shipped to my home (it has to travel extra, which causes more pollution) or does that not matter because clothes I would buy near my home have already been shipped from a far away place? Thanks!

I have switched to mostly organic everything. I say mostly because there are things that my grocery store doesn’t offer in organics. I agree that the fruits and veggies taste better. The difference in price is hardly noticeable since I have stopped purchasing the “ready to eat” stuff.

Hi Lindsey
I have an idea for all your leather purses. Check out a great company called www.salvationsacks.com - she makes adorable purses from old vintage fabrics, the straps are made from old belts and old straps from disassembled purses. You may want to email her and ask if she’ll take your old purses?
Also, shipping clothes to you does involve fossil fuels but if you do the three-sixty, it’s more eco-friendly to buy online, than to drive to the store.
